The Day Lodge is nestled in the Callaghan Valley, close to Whistler. The location was deemed ideal for ski jump, cross country and biathlon sports facilities, and offers spectacular outlooks immediately west to snowcapped Brandywine and Powder Mountains and Pali Dome. The site features primarily second growth vegetation. Particular effort was expended in the site planning to attending to effective water management and drainage filtration, and to the retention of healthy mature tree clusters.
The contemporary design of the Whistler Nordic Centre includes a 10,000 square foot Day Lodge, expandable to 14,000 square feet. This building uses advanced Ground Heat Source Systems coupled with enhanced envelope design to dramatically reduce energy use. This venue is also serviced with an additional nearby competition building to provide comprehensive sport support activities, including judging, timing, media and related participant functions. The latter is housed within a large multi-purpose space for future public-oriented club activities. Functional and technical requirements related to alpine environmental conditions have been key components of the development program. The firm has shepherded the post-construction application process which secured LEED® Gold certification.
