This 13,380 square foot multi-use building situated in Squirrel Cove on Cortes Island, BC is set to accommodate the administration and health care requirements of the Klahoose First Nation.

The site is considered semi-remote and the design response is sensitive to using materials and building systems suitable for a challenging location. Construction utilizes a heavy timber post and beam structural frame, sip exterior wall and roof panels with cedar board cladding metal standing seam metal roofing and an aluminium window frame system.

Sustainable energy conscious construction practices are employed throughout to ensure the building arrives with the least negative impact on the environment. This integration and siting of building for its extensive views of the water and forest reminds the occupants of its place in nature.
