Cityplace, located in the heart of Victoria’s Humboldt Valley, is a 53-unit, 7 storey condominium building. The project connects residents to an urban lifestyle – in part due to the site’s proximity to major commercial areas – while also providing landscaped green space in the form of private and communal garden terraces, echoing the character of nearby Beacon Hill Park.
Particular attention was given to the access of natural light and desirable views on behalf of the individual residents. To further reinforce a connection to the project’s context, some units enjoy cantilevered balconies, while other units are provided with more shallow, “French” balconies.
The building’s form is a simple rectangular volume with a slightly higher and more irregularly shaped wing framing the interior courtyard to the southwest. Exposed painted and unpainted concrete, clay brick and glass are the prominent materials used, giving the building excellent durability while linking it to Victoria’s urban vocabulary.
